Innovative Ways to use your Smartphone Camera

The smartphone camera is much smarter and versatile than it looks. There are many tricks that you can use to transform the camera into a scanner, memory aid, search tool, colour identifier and more. Here are some of them:

Film Scanner feature (iPhone and Android):
If you have old 35 mm negatives and what to get a digital copy of them, you can use your smartphone camera. Install the Helmut Film Scanner app to turn your camera into a scanner. Then place the negative over a lit area like a light box or a screen monitor, take a photo of the negative in this way to get a full colour copy of the image. The app also allows you to edit the image using features like brightness, cropping, contrast color and others. You can also share these images through the Drop Box, Flickr, Facebook and EyeEm connectivity option on the app.

On the iOS, you can use the Photo JoJo app that uses the flash to blasts the negatives with light and then use the Lomo Scanner app to get the results.

Color Identifier (iPhone and Android):
You can use your camera to search for and use colours that will suit your home. Dulux has an app that lets you capture photos of your home, and other rooms so that you can then identify the colours that were used to paint them. This app has a colour picker that magnifies a part of the image and then you can match the color in the image with those you can find online. You can also buy this shade of paint.

Visual Search Tool:
The Google Search App utilizes your camera to turn your phone into a search engine. It is as simple as pointing your camera at an object, Google then searches its database to locate information about it. You can search through a photo and text mode and you can also use the app on iOS as well. This same app can also double as a QR scanner, OCR scanner, a translator and to solve Sudoku puzzles too.

Creative Camera:
The DblCam app lets you use your Smartphone camera is two ways. Unleash your creative skills with this app using both cameras, take two photos and merge them to create awesome effects. You can capture images in front of you and behind you, below and above you, left and right or any other angle that you can think of. The second photo follows the first photo by a second. Android users can use the Double Shot Camera that may not match the DblCam, but is just as good.

Font Identifier:
You have probably heard of the WhatTheFont app, it now has an app for iOS. The app can identify as well as tag different typefaces. All you have to do is to point the camera at any font in order to identify it of look for something similar. The app is not yet available on Android, but you can use it on the web.

Build, Display and Design:
The XonPhone 5 has a good build. The back cover is made out of thin plastic that makes it very flexible, it sports a design that is perforated. The 3G Android Smartphone comes in three colours of gold, silver and grey. The phone has a very simple rectangle shape, power/ lock switch, volume control, three touch navigation buttons. The 5” display is the most noticeable feature that is HD (1280x 720p), since it is IPS OGS, the screen is very responsive, delivers bright color reproduction and has Full View.

RAM and Processor:
The quad core MediaTek MT6582 processor (1.3 GHz) cortex A7 can be found in many other budget android phones, so one can be assured of good performance. This is biggest advantage of the XonPhone 5, in this respect; the XonPhone 5 had scored 17,222 on the Antutu and 48.9 FPS on the Nenamark 2. The daily performance of the phone was smooth but there was minor frame drops in some of the graphics heavy games. The interactions with the UI were very good as there was a 1 GB RAM out of which just 400 MB was available when booted for the first time.

Internal storage and camera:
The 8 MP camera captures videos at 30 FPS (1080p HD), the pictures captured in low light were a bit grainy but the color reproduction was very good. The camera was very good as it features a number of features through which you can edit the photos, there are various modes and the camera exceeds expectations in a 3G Android Smartphone of this range. There is a LED Flash that does not work with the 2 MP camera. You have a 16 GB internal storage, out of this only 13 GB is free to use. You cannot move apps to the external SD card, so you have to adjust this setting to make the SD card the default storage area.

Battery and UI:
The budget android smart phone runs Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat out of the box, with only minor customizations being made to the icons and the home screen that looks very similar to the MIUI. Again, if you are not happy with this theme and look, you can always install any launcher app. The 2000 mAh battery offers average backup, this all depends on how apps you are running.

Connectivity, Video playback and sound:
The Android Smartphone can support playback for HD and Full HD videos, there is a loudspeaker at the back that delivers very good audio output in games and videos. The sound will get slightly muffled if you place the phone on a flat surface. There are a good number of connectivity options like Bluetooth, WiFi, WiFi Direct and HSPA+ and micro USB.

The XonPhone 5 is currently the best budget android smartphone out there, log on to www.oplustech.com to know more about it.

The XonPhone 5 - Not Your Average Budget Smart Phone

One budget smart phone has successfully combined good features with some really great ones. We are talking about the XonPhone 5. Currently available on Snapdeal.com for Rs. 7999/-, the smart phone is a good investment that promises good performance.

Those people, who want a smart phone with a good amount of internal space, should consider the XonPhone 5. This smart phone from OPlus sports a 5” HD display, good design and build quality, awesome battery life and good performance.

OPlus is a name that is very new, they had first come out with a budget tablet called Xonpad 7, now they have XonPhone 5. As far as the Xonpad 7 is concerned, it had got the attention that was due as the company has ensured that it was at par with premium build tablets. What OPlus had done was to merge affordability and decent specifications in Xonpad 7 and now their XonPhone 5.

The XonPhone 5 is the first smart phone offering from Oplus for their Indian consumers, priced at a very competitive Rs. 7999/- or $130. The names that currently dominate this market include Samsung, Motorola, Micromax and Sony. After the release of the Xonpad 7, however, OPlus found that a customized survival strategy worked best for them in this market. This was to offer standard gadgets that also contained good features that were packaged that were effectively priced.

Consumers who have used the XonPhone 5 are happy with it; they do however wish that the cameras were a little better. The 8 MP camera is a very good feature that many other smart phones are not offering along with the 2 MP camera. Both capture very good images and videos, feature multiple settings, and have geo tagging. Here is a quick look at the specifications of the phone:

Intro: XonPhone 5 Review:
After using the XonPad 7, we had very high expectations from the XonPhone 5, which it did deliver on. The first thing that was noticed was the impressive performance after the first boot. Then there was the build of the phone that was also good as it looked like a premium phone and was also built like one. The MT6582 CPU by MediaTek can be found on similar phones, so where quality performance is concerned, one does not have to worry.

Regarding its features, the XonPhone 5 has everything that an androids is supposed to have, and that a good thing. Along with this you also have a few key features that make the phone stand out on its own; this is what makes the phone worth its price tag:
•          MediaTek MT6582 (1.3 GHz)
•          5” display (1280x 720p)
•          1 GB RAM
•          Mali 400 GPU
•          16 GB Internal Storage
•          8 MP Primary Camera (Auto Focus)
•          2 MP Camera (Front Facing)
•          Android 4.4.2 (Kit Kat)
•          Dual SIM
•          2000 mAh battery
•          143x71.5x7.8 mm Dimensions

Upon taking a closer look at what it really contains, the specifications being offered are really good. The experience across all these main criteria was respectable. What adds more value to this phone is the internal storage, price, design, user interface and display?

On a last note, Oplus felt that it was necessary to setup a network for customer support that offers ‘At-Your-Doorstep’ service as part of an extended warranty to the customer. This adds more value as many other bigger companies may not cover their budget smart offerings in this way.

The XonPhone 5 offers a number of features at a jaw dropping price. Log on to www.oplustech.com to know what they are.
