XonPhone 5 Gaming Review

The XonPhone 5 was announced among a lot of media frenzy. In terms of overall gaming performance, here is the review.

This review is for the benchmarking test and for the performance in terms of game play across a number of games in the low graphic and the high end graphic games. The manufacturers, Oplus had packed in a number of good features in their first budget smart phone offering. So before we move on to the performance in the gaming section, we will take a quick look at the benchmark results:

          Quadrant Standard:              6913
          Antutu:                                   18625
          Nenamark 2:                          48.8 FPS

Many android users feel that benchmark numbers are not true indicators of android performance. They assess the performance and software output of any budget device on a day to day basis. Coming down to the games, the apps that were tested were the most popular ones like Temple Run and Subway Surfers. These two low graphic games were used as game performance benchmarks as they are most popular games on the android platform.

Subway Surfers is a medium level graphics game that the device handled well without any drops in the frame rate. There was great color reproduction, graphics loaded very well and the audio quality was very good.

Moving on opt Temple Run 2, which is also a medium level graphics game, played very well with no problem at all. Mid level games work perfectly on the 1280x 720p 5” display, the screen looks even better when increased to full brightness. This game also delivered very high results in terms of color reproduction, audio quality and graphics loaded very well.

So where low to mid graphic games are concerned, the performance was very good, and there were no issues at all in terms of graphics, frame rate drops etc.

Coming to the games that very graphics intensive, we had tried Riptide GT 2, Virtual Tennis, Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 4. All these game apps are also very popular games; they are very heavy in terms of graphics and were tested on the XonPhone 5 on the full graphics settings.

Playing Riptide, you can easily see the reflections, the water splashes and other smaller effects in the game. The game play for this app was very smooth and lags free. The touch response was also very quick therefore enhancing game play. The gravity sensor also responded very well in these motion games. Then in virtual tennis, there was absolutely no lag at all. Both these games did very well in the color reproduction sections and the lack of any other graphics issues made the games more enjoyable.

In Asphalt 8, there were some very minor labs and frame drops when the game would switch between actual game to video intros and vice versa. This does not mean that the game in unplayable by any means. You simply have to adjust the graphics settings from high to medium and the game would be right on track with no lags and other issues. Here too the tough response and the colour reproduction were very good.

Then we have Modern Combat 4, this is a super heavy game and our favorite one. The XonPhone 5 had handled this game very well. The game was surprisingly fast, had delivered very strong colours and the sound was fantastic. The back portion of the phone especially towards the camera, had become slightly warm, but this is to be expected after heavy duty gaming.

In conclusion, the XonPhone 5 can manage all tasks and just about any game that is thrown at it. The device had played all the game test apps to perfection, with no frame rate drops.

Enjoy your favourite games on the best budget android smart phone device. Log on to www.oplustech.com to know more about it.
